Wild weaving workshop at Conningbrook Lakes

Weaving

NHS staff from the Ashford area attended a wild weaving workshop at Conningbrook Lakes with artist Gemma Gottelier this autumn.

It was the latest in a series of free workshops being delivered by Outdoor Studios as part of a public art programme from Chartway Group, Latimer Developments and Ashford Borough Council.

Gemma led the session with the group of 18 staff from the Kent and Medway Communication and Assistive Technologies service (KELSI) - a regional service providing specialist multi-disciplinary assessment, intervention and review of specialist communication and Assistive Technology (AT) for children and young people.

Speaking after the event, Gemma said, “The group collected sticks and other plants and flowers then created looms with sticks and wools, weaving their foraged natural materials into them.

“There was a lovely variety of colourful weaves and the group seemed to thoroughly enjoy the activity - there were a few keen crafters amongst them - and their Conningbrook Lakes experience.”
